Happy Birth-Day To Me!

Hey everyone! My name is Owen, and here are some facts about me ... 

Born in WALES! I grew up in Cwmbran with my parents Anne and Mike, and my sister Sue, and brother Nathan. 

I got married, had two children Jess (1991) and Dan (1994), studied for a degree in Mathematics and Computing, and then a Ph.D in Artificial Intelligence.

Coast to Coast ... I moved to North Devon with my family for a couple of years, to work for a small consulting company who worked mainly for Cable and Wireless/IBM.  We then made a big and exciting move to Southern California - Aliso Viejo near Laguna Beach to be exact.  This is a fantastic place!  I worked for an automotive consulting company called Syncata (now part of Snap-On).  For the majority of my time there, I worked on a challenging project for Toyota Motor Sales in Long Beach, CA.  I would have loved to have stayed there forever (CA, that is) but I separated from my wife, and when my children moved back to the UK, it seemed the right time for a move back to Europe. 

Life in Belgium .... I didn't really know anything about Belgium, but I guess sometimes life takes you wherever the wind blows (or in the case of Belgium, where the rain falls!). I went there with Julie (now my wife of almost 3 years) to continue working for Toyota.  We got married in October 2004, and had a baby girl Jaime Grace in October 2005.  She is so sweet ....

Rough times.  In May 2006, my father passed away.  This was without any doubt the saddest time of my life.  If I can be just one hundreth of the man my father was, especially to be dad to my children the way he was to us, and husband to my wife the way he was to my mother, then I'll be a contented man. Rest in Peace, Dad. 

To the Future! but, where next? Well, that's hard to say ... but I hope to have a few noteworthy minutes ahead of me, so watch this space ...

Oh, and just ignore my photo - I am trying to do one of those gangster poses that all the boys seem to do that hang around with my daughter Jess. It just doesn't work for me - I know ...

OK guys, confirmation of the BBQ at our place from 3pm on the 17th June.  Early start so Jaime can join in.  Please bring wives / girlfriends / both and kiddos.  I am not trying to bribe you as I know Alloutte wouldn't approve, but it might be a nice idea if your partners would register on whosetime and vote for my minute !!!! ... I'll be checking if you voted before letting you in :)

Start of the Garden Shed project.

• * update 31/10/2007 : uploaded pictures of the first work - measuring where the 3m x 3m shed will be placed
• * update 06/11/2007 : foundation almost finished
• * update 10/12/2007 : building of shed finished; have to paint and put roofing on the roof
